Zephyr
His eyes are shining in the thought of a far-off day, scattered in tomorrow’s wind, where the bending of thought no longer hungers, and the words to say will slide off his lips as if no longer captive. His heart is wandering within his chest, daring to beat for the things that are elusive, knowing that the wanting for them can be the demon, breathing down his neck after the things are found. His mind is conjuring the spirits of dusk, urging them to hurry in their arrival, casting a kind of magic, they will, as night settles; words finding their source in clarity unbounded. His life is a conscription of a tangled world, remarked of in the dark ink of his passion, settled carefully in the straight edges of his emotion, twisting in the frayed edges of his unrecognized desires. His sanctity is his understanding of his soul, safe and sure, it listens to the blood course through his veins, holding securely the measured strokes of the pen, allowing him to realize he has the power within his grasp. Her vision grew as an apparition of light, his long held secrets revealed in his words to her, ever steadfast his fearless gaze remained poised, hidden behind his shadowy form. Her footsteps followed his movements slowly, as his flight would lead him back to her assuredly; eternity knows no boundaries in a world of forever, as he ran from the possibility of her rejection. Her travels brought her to many lands, entreating her imagination with beauty, enthralling her heart with its majesty, urging her words onward as always towards him. Her life found his trail of wisdom and the tiny fragments of his sharded love, calling to her as pieces of a puzzle scattered, waiting for her to prove her undying loyalty. Her peace settled softly in her heart upon the gilded sunset, as each smile she received was accepted, each barb she received treasured as a gift, enfolding both evil and fair within her arms. Her path led her home to her fortress finally; there were no more lessons to be gleaned, her faith that his knowledge of the truth shone through, and ensured that his return would be eminent, and it was truly to be so… Dark night hung heavily under shrouded stars, impending battle a possibility it would seem; her fortress stood shadowed in the distance, alone and revealing nothing of the life within. His deed long held too closely in the front of his mind, denied his love for her and sealed its truth, flight under darkness to hide his countenance, had marked him forever a coward in his own eyes. Her beauty held staunch in his memory was his nightmare, her touch but a distant dream from another day, when he had secretly found her care and stolen her heart, leaving on a wind of lost hopes, his words crushed them. Moonlight found her then, atop the castle wall her form still and silent in the far off sky, his eyes begged her words to sail to him in peace, but he feared it would not be so this time. Murmurs from the hooded figures nearby, reminded him of their callous task; she would be his as this night ended, to be sure as in life or death, his torment could not go on. Signal given, they moved forward with intent, darkened skies soon hid the glowing moon, and approaching the inevitable, the sound of battle loomed, the wind moaned as if from another realm in agony. Swords raised and voices calling, they found the wall impenetrable, her gaze from above, serene and sure, the two faced the night with strength of will, weakness of the heart breaking the night as a dagger. And so it had begun. He stood silently as the battle began to rage, hands clenching and mind churning, unsure if this were the tactic he should take, unable to understand another way. The hours passed with dangerous might, yet still, the door remained barred, no sound echoing from within the halls, no defense being offered from the parapet. Night slowly began its descent to dawn his soldiers holding tightly to their honor, refusing to relent to the invisible stanchion standing secure, as if there were a force more mighty behind. He parted the ravishing crowd of crusaders then, moving to the impassable door in anger, raising his fists to the sky, his voice a bellowing howl, releasing a rage he had not known he possessed. Only darkness shadowed his soul as he prepared to break down the barrier with his mind, a blinding fury of spirit within, showed his misguided love, once captured in another time and his undoing. Bleak fear showed upon soldiers faces withdrawn, his wrath unlike any they had seen, and his hands reached out to the entrance, finality destined to meet them there. Slowly, with the delicacy of a summer breeze, the door swung open as if never barred, a soft light and internal quiet wafted out, indicative of the space harbored within. Unclenching his hands with his departing rage, his view of her made clean the taint of his soul, his folly to think of her as a disparaging wretch, now only his barrage of tales, words, effect. Silently she opened the door to them all, gesturing gently with hardly a sound, on his signal they entered unsure of their task, and the final one there stood alone and unmasked. and so it goes… Mottled light revealed the all that was true, concealed emotion held captive in the moment, waiting upon the precipice of the next breath, two souls stood suspended in time. Beyond was a feast fit for the finest of warriors, and they fell upon the repast with hearty vigor, their thoughts now bemused by need of revitalization, as if a spell had been cast, and it was so. She turned then in the quiet light, a candle held as she led him through the cavernous halls, no words uttered and it seemed he was powerless, treading behind her form as if there were no other steps. Hallways wound upon the nights shadows, movement was but a dark glimpse, when finally they reached an open door, she turned to allow him entrance into the inky silence. His voice caught as if in a vice as he stood waiting, words unable to be retrieved from her silent gaze, her beauty longed for was forgotten then, as her mind seemed to speak in the quiet. “Upon your return, dear sir, I implore just a few words, your humble spirit begs for the sound of just cause.” Her voice was the wind across the horizon, drifting with a calm that touched his soul. “Forgiveness and your vow of devotion is all I have sought.” Raspy and saddened, his words came from his heart. Her long gaze held his own in what seemed the gasp of eternity as a hand she did raise finally to silence his words. She kissed his lips softly then and his surprise was whole, it was the feeling of the redemption he had sought, enveloping him as the fog on a forested night, pulling him into her heart and mind at once. Reaching to him then, she placed a single rose in his hand, smiled softly, and spoke the vow, “For Eternity”, and as if a storm had swept into the room, she dissolved into swirling mass of sand, collecting softly at his feet. and his heart was free….
