A Poet's Death

(An Ode To A Poet's Death)

Oh breathless song of heaven’s beckon,
dare there walk among us unfettered peace?
When night shall linger for all eternity
shall my words find kind release?

Last mountain’s gaze will be honored,
as the eyes wander toward silent light;
given justice for a poet’s meandering,
held captive in shadows of her right.

Might sunrise question the absence,
musings upon the parchment gone—
vagrant whispers of the mind exposed,
found nevermore in her plaintive song?

Twilight’s beauty no longer to behold,
crimson reflection blank upon the page,
shimmering starlit heavens carry on—
inspiring the youth of another age.

Passion’s thirst shall find no purpose,
but will final dreams still linger there?
Where shall the poet’s soul find refuge?
Will eternity’s legion prove so fair?

But once I wish for providence,
if only the muses would be content,
giving answers to these ponderings-
wisdom offered, wisdom sent.

No, we struggle with these questions,
as we touch the pen to the page,
the mind and heart stay restless,
the verse to come of age.
