A Thousand Paper Cranes

"This is our cry,This is our prayer,peace in the world."

At twelve years old,young Sadaku loved to run.
She joined track and field ,went to meets and had fun.
Athletic girl,strong and couragous
But something happened one day because of the past
nightmare she now lives with in the modern day

Started when she was two years old,
Away from her homeland,Hiroshima
Young ,Japanese Sadaku experianced horror one day
Gases spread through the outskirting towns,
causing sickness all around,poisioning the air people breathed

Sadaku survived the atomic bomb,at the young age of two
Later being diagnosed with Leaukemia,
after getting dizzy at a home track meet
All due to the gases,this bomb kept inside it
Everday she felt dizzy and her body grew limp

One day her best friend told her
about an old Japanese legend
One that she believed in
"Anyone who folds 1000 cranes of paper,
a wish will be granted that they recieve right after."

She wanted to run and be well again.. was her wish

So Sadaku prayed to the God's to give her strength
to endure this test,so her wish can be made and granted
Her friend folded the first crane and handed it too her
"Your first one,your turn to become a master"
She folded and folded until she got it right

Within two months later,her mother gave her a gift
A kimono made of the finest silk,
with cherry blossom flowers all over it
Sadako wore this with pride,being called Sadaku-chan by her mother.
Her health improved ,doctors allowed her to go home for a few days

Sadaku later died,having folded 644 paper cranes.

Her friends saved her letters,kept them in a book,
which is now published,thanks to their love.
The proceeds from the book bought a monument just for her,
on top she holds a golden crane,inscribed also a quote from kids.

"This is our cry,This is our prayer,peace in the world."

All because of war,so many lost their lives.
